Molly dancing goes back to the 19th century, where plough boys would parody the English country dancing done by those higher in social status. Our dances don't all go back that far. Some are from reconstructions and creations from the Seven Champions in the last few decades. Others are original dances that we have created in the style of Molly dancing. |

Personent Hodie
Green River's seminal dance. This is the dance that was created for Welcome Yule that inspired us to form the team. It is a version of College Hornpipe danced to a favorite song from Welcome Yule called Personent Hodie. The arrangement we usually sang was 19 bars long so we had to do some fancy footwork to make it work.

Factory Lad
Factory Lad was our second original dance. Although the Molly tradition is agriculturally based, we found ourselves translating it to the industrial side, much as we were moving it from Britain to the US.
-
Inertia Reel
This was our second dance. It's a perennial favorite frequently lifted from Seven Champions, which is exactly what we did...

Backs & Sides
This was originally a dance from Ouse Washes that came to the States through Handsome Molly which one of us learned at a workshop in North Carolina. We changed it again to be more in line with our style and outlook.
